Miso’s Story: Fighting to Live After the Fire

When the fire broke out, the entire house was engulfed in flames. By the time the blaze was put out, nothing was left but ashes and broken walls. Amid the wreckage, firefighters pulled out one small survivor — a cat named Miso.

Miso’s condition was critical. She had severe burns across her body, her fur charred, her skin raw and blistered. She had also lost a dangerous amount of blood. When we first saw her, she was barely conscious, her tiny body trembling, her breathing weak and shallow. The smell of smoke still clung to her, and every movement seemed to cause her pain.

We rushed Miso to the emergency animal hospital. The veterinarians immediately placed her on oxygen and started IV fluids to keep her alive. They cleaned her wounds, bandaged the burns, and gave her strong pain medication just so she could rest without agony. Even then, her condition remained fragile.

The doctors told us that the next few days are crucial. Miso needs continuous wound care, antibiotics, and blood tests to make sure infection doesn’t set in. She will likely need multiple treatments and weeks of recovery before she even has a chance to live a normal life again. The cost of her medical care is already rising quickly — and it will only increase as her treatment continues.

But looking into Miso’s eyes, even in her pain, we saw a spark — a will to survive. After everything she has endured, she is still fighting. We cannot let her fight alone.
