A Forgotten Cage, a Fading Life – Lucky’s Story
When our rescue team walked into the dark, narrow alleys of a slum in Asia, we didn’t expect our hearts to shatter the way they did that day. Among the broken bricks and rusted metal, we saw a tiny, shaking figure inside a crude wire cage.
That’s when we met Lucky.
His body was almost unrecognizable as a puppy’s. Mange had stripped away nearly all his fur, leaving behind raw, inflamed skin covered in sores. His little paws were cracked and bleeding from standing for days on filthy, wet ground. The smell of infection was overwhelming. But nothing compared to the look in his eyes—eyes that had already endured too much for such a young soul.
Lucky had no name, no bed, no one to love him. The world had given up on him long before we arrived. For who knows how long, he had been sitting there—caged, hungry, in pain, and waiting for something… anything… to change.
When we approached, he didn’t bark or whimper. Instead, he slowly lifted his head, and through the tangled wire, we saw a silent plea for mercy. We crouched down, whispering softly to let him know he wasn’t alone anymore.
The moment we opened that cage, Lucky didn’t try to run. He just curled his frail body into our arms, shaking but holding on, as if saying, “Please, don’t let me go back there.”
We carried him out of that nightmare and promised him that his suffering ends here. We promised him warmth, gentle hands, and a chance to live—not just survive.
But the road to healing is long. Lucky needs medical treatment for his skin infections, nutritious food to regain strength, and most importantly—time and love to teach him that not all humans will hurt him.
Every day, we see countless animals just like Lucky, trapped in cages of misery with no way out. And every day, we fight to give them a second chance. But we cannot do it alone.

Fighting for His Life (Week 1)
After the rescue, we rushed Lucky to a nearby veterinary clinic. The doctors were shocked at his condition—his body was covered in sores, his immune system was dangerously weak, and he was severely malnourished.
For the first few nights, Lucky was too weak to even stand. He lay curled in a soft blanket, flinching every time someone touched him, unsure if he was safe. But slowly, as we fed him small portions of nutritious food and treated his infected skin, we saw something incredible—his eyes started to shine again.
One morning, for the first time, Lucky wagged his tiny tail. It was faint and slow, but it was a miracle to us. It was his way of saying, “I want to live.”
But Lucky’s journey is far from over. His body still needs weeks of treatment, medication, and round-the-clock care. We know we can get him there—but only with your help.

The Pawheaven Foundation Emergency Medical Grant program assists Pawheaven members in caring for ONE PET in need of emergency medical care to become adoptable. Eligible expenses may include but are not limited to emergency care for accidents resulting in broken bones, poisoning, car accident, laceration, foreign object ingestion, surgeries for hip and elbow dysplasia, cherry eye, extensive dental surgery, tumor, cancer, mass removal, cleft lip/palate, glaucoma, and epilepsy.
